10 Things Science Says Will Make You Happy

I came across a list of "happiness goals" here

The list shows 10 ways that science says will make one happy.

I cannot help but laugh.

The Bible already talks deeply on these points about life's stress in a much more meaningful way, long before modern science figured it out.

Let's take them one at a time from the site:

"Savor Everyday Moments"
"Pause now and then to smell a rose or watch children at play."
  • The Bible says "So never worry about tomorrow, because tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own." ~Matt 6:34.
  • “An anxious heart weighs a man down, but a kind word cheers him up” ~Proverbs 12:25,
"Avoid Comparisons" "While keeping up with the Joneses is part of American culture, comparing ourselves with others can be damaging to happiness and self-esteem."
  • The Bible clearly teaches about coveting and lust - both are issues about wanting what is not yours. This is constant friction to your spirit and body. It is a sin and hurts you.
"Put Money Low on the List"
  • The Bible clearly teaches that the love of money is the root of all kinds of evil, and that you cannot serve both God and riches or money (or materialism).
"Have Meaningful Goals"
  • The Bible clearly teaches where your heart, mind and strength should be directed - their goal. Once your goal of is to put God first in all things, you will be at peace with Him.
"Take Initiative at Work"
  • Jesus clearly teaches the differences between lazy workers and workers who are disciplined and good, pleasing their employers and masters.
"Make Friends, Treasure Family"
  • Jesus had many friends and family is always taught in the Bible to be a priorty and major importance. The welfare of family in the Bible is a strong teaching in the Bible.
"Smile Even When You Don’t Feel Like It"
  • Though a nice thought, smiling just to smile is not enough. There needs to be real peace in the heart and that happens when one isn't chasing worldly fancies or worried about life. But Paul even says that he has endured through persecution and trial and tribulation. He knows what it is to be hungry and be well fed, to be destitute and need nothing - even in prison Paul writes that he knows the secret of contentment - true peace in that it is the knowledge that he can endure all things through Christ who strenghthens him.
"Say Thank You Like You Mean It"
  • The Bible goes deeper and talks about the fruit of the spirit. 9 of them that are signs of a true believer. Galatians 5:22 - love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control. If a true believer exhibited these fruit they will automatically be honest and polite - it will be a natural part of them.
"Get Out and Exercise"
  • Exercise in the Bible was in the form of walking. There were no cars, trains, or planes. Practically everyone walked, ran or rode on an animal if they couldn't walk the distance.
  • The Bible speaks plainly about obesity and it describes stories of healthy eating.
"Give It Away, Give It Away Now!"
  • Altruism is what the Bible is best at describing a person who is born again in Christ. The early church gave away all their possessions so that no one would be in need. Giving to the poor is plainly taught. Selflessness is key. Jesus had a servants heart to serve others -- what He did on the cross is the epitome of true selflessness.

We don't need science to tell us these things that the Bible goes into more detail about how to be at peace with God. The first way to have peace with God is to repent of sin, the very sin that causes so much pain and stress - not only to ourselves but unto others externally. We must see God's Law as a mirror of our selfish, wicked hearts and then plead to Him for mercy for a new heart. Once we see ourselves in the light of God's Law - God will give us a new heart, a true heart that points to Him.

We are all enemies of God, not children, until we face the reality of our sin, confess it before Christ, and repent (turn) from our sin and put our trust in Christ Jesus to save us from Hell.

Only then, will God deliver us from what we all deserve, from what our sins condemn us to.

"But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us." (Romans 5:8)

It is in the cross of Christ that all of God's love is poured through. The curse of sin taken away.
If anyone rejects this and they die, they will fall to Hell as their sin condemns them.

It is not God's will that any would perish. But as the angels of old said to the shepherds. "Peace on earth, good will toward men ON WHOM HIS FAVOR RESTS."

Science cannot dictate how to make one happy.

Louis CK does a comedy sketch where he says "Everything's amazing, nobody's happy".

This is so true. In a world where there is so much more science, knowledge and technology, you think people would be "happier". But they aren't. They just want...more.

And materialism brought about by science is always elusive.

The Bible says "for where your treasure is, there your heart will be also." Matthew 6:21.

God's word plainly teaches all these things about true peace, whereas science barely scratches the surface of the issue. Looking at a rose or watching children play is all well and good, and it's good to enjoy the beauty of God's creation - but it's deeper than that. Non of those things can bring about true peace if the person is at war with God.

And for the people who don't believe in God, they fall into a hopeless state. For merely looking at a rose and appreciating it's beauty will never make sense if there is tragedy in one's life.

This is why people commit suicide or murder their families or others. Because they see how hypocritical "science" really is. And unfortunately they also see how hypocritical religous people are who aren't born again with a new, true heart of God.

To be at peace - is to not be an enemy but a child of God. If we are not born again in Christ Jesus - we are all enemies of God - and our destruction is naturally Hell.
